Fracjoin Capsule contains Cissus quadrangularis Linn., also known as “Bone setter”. Phytochemical screening of Cissus quadrangularis Linn. revealed high contents of Phytosterols, Ascorbic acid, Carotene and Calcium. It acts on estrogenic receptors of the bone. It has been observed that Cissus quadrangularis Linn. stimulates metabolism and increases uptake of the mineral Calcium, Sulphur and Strontium by the osteoblasts in fracture healing. It contains Phytosterols and Vitamins, which have specific effect on the healing of bone fracture. The active principles obtained from Cissus quadrangularis Linn. showed a marked influence in the rate of fracture healing by influencing early regeneration of all connective tissues involved in the healing and quicker mineralization of callus. Cissus quadrangularis Linn. hastens fibroblastic phase, collagen phase and osteochondroitis phase. This hastening in the fracture healing was attributed to the stimulation of all the cells of mesenchymal origin, namely the fibroblasts, the chondroblasts and osteoblasts by Cissus quadrangularis Linn. It has greater impact on osteoblastic proliferation than other cellular responses. Cissus quadrangularis Linn. builds up the chemical composition of the fractured bone namely its Mucopolysaccharides, Collagen, Calcium, Phosphorus and others as well as its functional efficiency. It also leads to a much faster increase in bone tensile strength. Cissus quadrangularis Linn. also possess analgesic and anti-inflammatory activity.
It helps in relieving pain, reduction of swelling and promoting the process of healing of the simple fractures as well as in curing the allied disorders associated with fractures. It acts by preventing the conversion of arachidonic acid to inflammatory prostaglandins. The venotonic effect of Cissus quadrangularis Linn. may be due to the flavonoids present in it, which act in same way as that of Diosmin and Hesperidin. These bioflavonoids exhibit phlebotonic activity, vasculoprotective effects and antagonistic effect on the biochemical mediators of inflammation. Besides these effects, Cissus quadrangularis Linn. also possesses analgesic effect, which can be very useful in painful hemorrhoid.
